Cut the Rope: Experiments (WP) - Walkthrough Overview

A Walkthrough by KJT CD ACD

G'day, and welcome to the Cut the Rope: Experiments (WP) walkthrough! This is the second game in the series, this time seeing OmNom's box bouncing out the back of the delivery truck, right outside a science lab. Now, OmNom's owner must conquer new challenges in order to feed him his beloved candies! This is a very, very quick clear involving very little effort or puzzle-solving skills on the player's part. If you've not played the original Cut the Rope, it's as easy as this one and I'd urge you to spend the $0.99c to grab it and double your score.

So, in this walkthrough, I'll be covering the achievements by the Box (in game puzzle set) in which they can first be obtained. It will follow a simple structure; star-related achievements will be listed as first level available, provided you've 3-starred each level up to that point and mechanic-related achievements will be listed by the best level to grind them on. The other two achievements, feeding OmNom and photo collection, will be listed at the bottom of the walkthrough.

With that in mind, let's move on to the next page, which will deal with the mechanics you will need to master in order to clear the game.

Cut the Rope: Experiments (WP) - General Hints and Tips

Righto, time to dive into the mechanics you'll be using. As with the original, 300 stars are required to unlock all the worlds (6 in total), which is necessary to clear the game. Thankfully, once you hit 300 stars, you can stop worrying about them and start grinding. Each world has a new mechanic that can crop up again in a future world, so you'll need to know how to use them to the best of your ability. To that end, I've compiled a handy list below.

Ropes are the main mechanic of the game. Cut them, the candy falls. Sometimes, they can be stretched like a rubber band to fling the candy. Sometimes they can be moved on a slider. Sometimes they can attach themselves to the candy when it passes through a perforated circle. Sometimes, it can be a combination of any of the above. Thankfully, being the main mechanic, it will give you plenty of practice before throwing some of the heavy puzzles at you.

Once the candy touches a bubble, the gravity physics of it are reversed. The candy will float up, and it's path can only be changed by air cushions and ropes. These are extremely tricky now and again, usually requiring a certain degree of good timing to make the best use of them.

Air Cushions:

These are used to manipulate the speed or direction of a candy, usually either in a bubble or attached to a rope. They are frequent and, like bubbles, require a degree of good timing to master their use.

The first of several fun, new gameplay mechanics, rope guns are used to attach a rope to the candy from a fixed point in the level. These are most often used to define a trajectory for the candy, both before and after it has been freed from its supporting rope, bubble or free-fall. In some cases, timing is essential, but more often than not one requires little more than a bit of forethought to effectively use this toy.

Suction Cups:

Another new mechanic, suction cups are an extension of the 'Ropes' description above. Like regular ropes, suction cups can start attached to the candy or they can catch the candy when it passes through a perforated circle. Suction cups detach from walls with a tap and reattach with another, but they are susceptible to gravity when detached. Like rope guns, planning and timing are often required.

Bath Water:

Bath water is very simple; the candy floats in the water. This is a mechanic used in conjunction with several other mechanics - ropes, bubbles, air cushions and snails predominantly - to form intricate puzzles. It is primarily designed to be used with snails, which are described below.

Snails are used only in levels with bath water, and can attach to the candy to make it sink. This is used like a rubber band; the further the candy sinks into water, the further into the air it will be launched when the snail is detached. Once the candy is flying, many - if not all - of the above mechanics can be used to influence its trajectory. Forethought and timing is key.

Rockets are used to change the trajectory of a freefalling candy. They fly in a single direction, however the 'launch pads' can be rotated to change the direction in which it flies. When the candy come into contact with a rocket, it attaches to it and the rocket takes off. The candy will detach when the rocket comes into contact with another rocket or flies directly into OmNom's mouth. Their flight path can also be changed by robotic hands. A decent amount of planning will go into most levels utilising rockets.

Robotic Hands:

Robotic hands are used to catch the candy, as well as rockets in order to alter their trajectory along a set path in a circular motion. When catching the candy, robotic hands can be used in conjunction with every other mechanic in the game to obtain stars. This will involve rotating the robotic hand on several joints, indicated by red dots along the arm. This is easily the most difficult mechanic to master and will take some time to come to grips with, earning it a rightful place in the final Box. Take your time, plan your moves, and all will be well.

Now that you have a general idea of how to use the game's mechanics, it's on to the achievements!

Cut the Rope: Experiments (WP) - Achievements By World

On this page, you'll find all of the achievements in the game, structured by the World and Level they are best obtained in/on. This is largely according to solutions from the site (which I followed myself) as well as levels I personally found to be of use. So, without further ado, here we go!

Box 1: Getting Started

1-17 : If you have 3-starred each level up to this point, the 'Student' achievement will pop on this level.

Collect 50 stars

Student

1-23: This is the easiest level to get the 'High Jumper' and 'Crazy Jumper' achievements, as the candy enters the level tethered to a rope, bouncing between a fixed horizontal trampoline and two moving vertical ones. When you get to this level, just let the candy and momentum do their thing and the achievements will pop in no time.

Bounce on trampoline 100 times

High Jumper

Bounce on trampoline 400 times

Crazy Jumper

Box 2: Shooting the Candy

2-8: This is a great level for the 'Rookie Sniper' and 'Skilled Sniper' achievements, as the candy is tethered to a rope in a bubble with 4 rope guns lining the bottom of the screen. Tap all 4 rope guns and restart the level. Rinse and repeat 37 more times and both achievements are yours.

Shoot with the rope gun 50 times

Rookie Sniper

Shoot with the rope gun 150 times

Skilled Sniper

2-9: If you have 3-starred each level up to this point, the 'Assistant' achievement will pop on this level.

Collect 100 stars

Assistant

Box 3: Sticky Steps

3-3: This level makes grinding 'Novice Wall Climber' and 'Veteran Wall Climber' so easy. You'll start the level with the candy tethered between two suction cups. Tap either one of the suction cups to detach it and reattach it once it is directly below the other. Then, simply tap the bottom suction cup repeatedly until the achievements pop. Too easy!

Use suction-cup 50 times

Novice Wall Climber

Use suction-cup 400 times

Veteran Wall Climber

3-16: For the achievement 'Tummy Delight', you can either flawlessly complete the game (as it only contains 150 levels), or you can grind it out on this level. The candy floats from the bottom of the screen in a bubble directly into OmNom's mouth. Simply wait until he starts chewing on it and hit the restart button before the level ends. Repeat until you get your 10G.

Feed Om Nom with 150 candies

Tummy Delight

3-17: If you have 3-starred each level up to this point, the 'Doctor' achievement will pop on this level.

Collect 200 stars

Doctor

Box 4: Rocket Science

4-10: 'Party Animal' is made incredibly easy to obtain on this level, having 9 rockets ready to launch from the get-go. Tap all 9 and restart the level. Rinse and repeat until the achievement unlocks.

Launch 100 rockets

Party Animal

4-19: This is easily the best place to grind the rope cutting achievements. If you don't unlock 'Rope Expert' by the time you've finished all other achievements, this level has 8 ropes you can cut as soon as you load the level. Simply restart the level to rinse and repeat and grind until it unlocks!

Cut 50 ropes

Rope Collector

Cut 600 ropes

Rope Expert

Box 5: Bath Time

5-1: All you need to do in this level to unlock the 'Deep Diver' achievement is wait for the candy to drop from its spawn into the water. Once it's submerged, hit the restart button. Rinse and repeat another 149 times and the achievement is yours.

Get candy underwater 150 times

Deep Diver

5-16: In this level, your grinding is already half done for you. A snail is already attached to your candy. Simply tap the snail and restart the level. Repeat another 99 times and the achievement will unlock.

Grab snail 100 times

Snail Tamer

Box 6: Handy Candy

6-23: There's a rocket and robot hand ready for you to grind out the 'Robo Master' achievement in this level, and it is likely the last achievement you will need to clear the game. Load it up, tap the rocket, wait for it to be caught and restart the level. Repeat until the achievement unlocks.

Use robotic hand to catch 50 flying rockets

Robo Master

Photo Locations:

There are a total of 7 Photos to discover in 'Cut the Rope: Experiments', but thankfully, you only need 4 to unlock this achievement. Photos are indicated by peeling wallpaper in the background of certain levels, which are listed below.

Professor's Album: The fourth photo in this Album gives you a link to the Cut the Rope Facebook page. Like the page and return to the game for the Facebook Photo.

1-14: Clicking the top-left of this level will reveal the Magnifying Glass Photo.

2-19: Tapping above the second star in this level yields the Candy Beaker Photo.

3-19: Poking the far right of this level exposes the Books Photo.

4-7: Prodding down and to the right of OmNom in this level will reveal the Robot Photo.

5-23: Tapping the right hand side of the level will expel the Bath Time Photo.

6-17: Flicking the left hand side of the second robot hand will coax out the OmNom and a Cactus Photo.

Once you have collected 4 of these Photos, the achievement will pop.

  • 1 List of level packs

List of level packs [ ]

The game is divided into several level packs. As of December 2013, there are 8 packs, each consisting of 25 levels.

The story starts from an animated short showing a box with Om Nom getting to the Professor . He helps Om Nom pass a series of experiments, often commenting on his success or encouraging the player to try more.

  • Getting Started is mainly educational and reintroduces many gameplay elements from the original game .
  • Shooting the Candy is the first touch of different gameplay. It introduces rope guns , a type of rope that shoots the candy wherever it is. The length of the rope depends on the shooting distance and thus allows for totally new gaming experience.
  • Sticky Steps introduces suction cups . They attach ropes to the surface of the level and may be detached and reattached on a tap. It is the player who now chooses where his ropes start, which allows more freedom.
  • Rocket Science introduces rockets. As far as a rocket is activated by a candy, it carries the candy in a certain direction. Some rockets can be rotated before the launch, and multiple rockets in a screen often result in an elaborate chain of launches.
  • Bath Time is a pack of levels containing water, which changes the usual behavior of candy and other gameplay elements. While candy floats on the water, many puzzles require it to dive for some time.
  • Handy Candy introduces robotic arms. They can be rotated and bent with some buttons. They can hold candies and release them on a tap, but it's the player's duty to keep the candy safe.
  • Ant Hill utilizes a concept similar to Buzz Box : some ants carry the candy along a certain path. However, ants release the candy on a tap or when they reach the endpoint of the path.
  • Bamboo Chutes is the latest pack, and, as of December 2013, it is available only for Android. It uses chutes to turn the falling candy. The outcoming velocity of the candy is always the same, so the player is able to create infinite loops and regain speed easily.

The ending involves the professor showing Om Nom an invention that generates candy.

A similar concept to the original game's drawings , photos are hidden throughout the game. As of December 2013, the game has 10 photos.

Achievements [ ]

The game includes achievements system implemented with the help of Scoreloop service. As of May 2013, the game has 27 achievements.

Cut the Rope: Experiments is the only mainline game to not get an Om Nom Stories season.

If it did, it would have replaced Time Travel as the second season.
