This could be a brief story about a memorable flight experience or a statement about your passion for customer service in the aviation industry. Then, mention the specific job you're applying for and how your skills and experience make you an ideal candidate. It's important to show enthusiasm for the role and the company, demonstrating that you've done your research and understand their values and mission. This will help set you apart from other applicants. Flight attendants should end a cover letter by summarizing their interest in the position and expressing enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute to the airline. They should also reiterate their key skills and experiences that make them a strong candidate for the job. It's important to thank the hiring manager for their time and consideration, and express a desire for further discussion in an interview. For example: "I am excited about the prospect of bringing my customer service skills and passion for travel to your esteemed airline. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to further discuss how I can contribute to your team." Remember, the closing should be professional and positive, leaving a lasting impression on the hiring manager. A Flight Attendant's cover letter should ideally be about one page in length. This is because hiring managers often have to go through hundreds of applications and they appreciate concise and clear information. A one-page cover letter allows you to present your skills, experience, and passion for the job in a succinct manner. It's important to keep your content relevant and tailored to the job description of a Flight Attendant, highlighting your customer service skills, ability to handle emergencies, and your understanding of the role's demands and responsibilities. Remember, the goal of the cover letter is to intrigue the reader enough to move on to your resume for more details. Writing a cover letter with no experience as a Flight Attendant can seem challenging, but it's all about focusing on the skills and experiences you do have that make you a strong candidate for the role. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to approach it: 1. Start with a Professional Greeting: Address the hiring manager by name if possible. If not, use a professional greeting such as "Dear Hiring Manager". 2. Opening Paragraph: Begin by stating the position you're applying for. Express your enthusiasm for the role and the airline you're applying to. 3. Highlight Relevant Skills: Even if you haven't worked as a flight attendant before, you likely have skills that are relevant to the job. These could include customer service experience, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, or language skills. Use specific examples from your past work or volunteer experience to demonstrate these skills. 4. Show Your Knowledge of the Airline: Do some research about the airline and mention something you admire about it in your cover letter. This shows that you're serious about wanting to work for them specifically. 5. Explain Why You Want to Be a Flight Attendant: This is your chance to show your passion for the role. Talk about why you want to be a flight attendant, what you think you'd enjoy about the job, and how you see yourself contributing to the airline. 6. Closing Paragraph: Thank the hiring manager for considering your application. Express your eagerness to discuss your qualifications further in an interview. 7. Professional Sign-Off: End with a professional sign-off like "Sincerely" or "Best regards," followed by your full name. Remember, your cover letter should be concise, professional, and free of errors. It's your chance to make a strong first impression, so take the time to make it the best it can be. Does JetBlue Fly You Out To The Interview? What happens on compliance day. Compliance day is still part of the interview process. There are group exercises, the aspiring flight attendants read the PA’s (onboard announcements), do a jumpseat test, a reach test, DOT drug test, and finger printing. On compliance day there LOD test for (Language Of Destination) Spanish Speakers. The Jumpseat TestA jumpseat is a flight attendant seat, and you will need to fit in it. JetBlue has a jumpseat program, and that means if you fail the jumpseat test, you can still get a CJO (Contingent Job Offer) and have six months to fit into the jumpseat. There isn’t a weight or a size that fit’s into the jumpseat because it depends on each individual body and how it carries the weight. During the reach test, a requirement is to be able to reach 6’3″ without wearing shoes. This is to ensure that everyone can reach the overhead bins. Flight attendants always have to make overhead bin space, so being able to reach the bins is part of the job. After The CJOOnce obtaining a CJO – there is the required drug test, and HireRight does a 10-year background check. JetBlue provides all the information for that, like where to go for the drug test during a specific timeframe someplace near your residence. After the drug and background check, comes initial training. JetBlue Flight Attendant TrainingDoes JetBlue Pay For Training?Yes, they do. Training pay is $38.62 per day (taxable) and a $26 (tax-free) a day stipend for food at The Lodge, JetBlue’s lodging for flight attendants at JetBlue University. Depending on how large the training classes are, not everyone stays at The Lodge, and some are offsite at nearby hotels. But you can still eat at The Lodge with your food card even if you are not staying there. JetBlue Crewmembers get paid twice a month, on the 8th and the 20th, the same holds true for training. Does JetBlue Fly You Out To Training?Yes! You are now considered an employee and you will have your flight to training covered by the company. I think it’s important to note that you still must pass training before you officially become a Baby Blue. (That’s what JetBlue fondly calls their new hires.) If you don’t pass the minimum score allowed for all of your required tests, you will be sent home. Getting sent home from training without a job doesn’t only happen at JetBlue Airways, it happens at all airlines. Hotel Accommodations For Training JetBlue has its own accommodations called the Lodge where flight attendants stay for training. Depending on availability some flight attendants stay at an offsite hotel. Either way, the accommodations are paid for by JetBlue, and flight attendants get their own rooms. JetBlue Inflight Crewmember Training ScheduleOnce flight attendants get to the training center in Orlando, Florida, they will have a few days of orientation and receive an iPad mini. As a JetBlue Flight Attendant or (IFC), you will have your flight attendant manual on your iPad. Working flight attendants use it for everything on the line and get very acquainted with it in training. Training schedules get loaded onto the iPads, and there is a lot of paperwork to do. Training is broken up into AM training groups and PM training groups. Everything is dependent on how many people are there at that time. Training is six days a week, with one day off. JetBlue will pay for your uniforms, and all of that info comes before training in the welcome pack. JetBlue pays for the first set of uniforms and luggage and it’s not payroll deducted like at some other airlines. During training, flight attendants bid (choose and are awarded) for their base order preference. JetBlue has five bases : - JFK – John F. Kennedy Airport- this includes flights out of LGA – Laguardia and EWR – Newark
- BOS – Boston
- MCO – Orlando
- FLL – Fort Lauderdale
- LAX – Los Angeles
The junior bases are BOS and JFK. Why is that important? It’s easier to get the more junior bases. New flight attendants are junior, and the more junior the base the faster a flight attendant can get off of reserve and have a line of flying. Having a line of flying means much more control over your schedule. JetBlue Flight Attendant PayJetBlue Inflight Crewmembers have a choice between premium or straight pay. In addition, they have an option to choose the option twice annually. Premium pay is paid at time and a half on hours flown above 70 hours per month. There are actually three different pay rates for flight attendants at JetBlue. If they choose straight pay, they are paid one rate. If they choose premium pay, they are paid the premium rate for monthly hours worked 1-70, and hours 71- and above they get paid the premium pay scale at 150%. Sound confusing? It is! But there are pay charts below to help you understand. Starting PayStraight payscale vs premium payscale. - Straight Pay Scale – This has a higher base rate but no premium pay regardless of how many hours you work.
- Premium Pay Scale – You are paid that pays 1.5 times or 150% of the base premium rate once you exceed 70 hours. There is a premium base rate for hours 1-70 per month.
Flight Attendants at JetBlue have the ability to choose between the straight payscale and premium payscale twice a year. The straight payscale has a higher hourly rate than the premium payscale, but the premium payscale at 150% is much higher than straight pay. If all this is confusing, hopefully, the pay charts below can help you understand. I’m not a math person, but I always make sure I understand and fully explain the money. 😉 JetBlue Premium PayScale Hours 1 – 70JetBlue Premium Pay Scale at 150% hours 71 and UpJetBlue Straight Pay Scale For All Hours WorkedProbation for all-new flight attendants (IFC’s) at JetBlue is six months. When you are on probation you have to make sure all your i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed. Don’t miss a trip, report late, and if possible don’t get sick! Flight Attendant ReserveReserve guarantee. A reserve guarantee is how many hours reserve flight attendants are “guaranteed” to be paid per month regardless of how many hours they work. (Unless they work more hours than their guarantee, then they get paid more.) The reserve guarantee at JetBlue is 75 hours. If they are on the premium pay scale, the first 70 hours are paid at the premium base and the last five are paid at 150%. A reserve fight attendant at JetBlue has a call-out period, which is the hours they can be contacted and given an assignment (trip). As a reserve flight attendant at JetBlue, they bid for their schedule of days off and days they are on reserve (on-call). ASB – Airport Standby this is when JetBlue reserve flight attendants are assigned six hours to wait at the airport (the crew lounge is comfortable) in six hours blocks. Sometimes a reserve is assigned ASB on their reserve days. Reserves can be assigned a great trip from airport standby, sometimes the best trips are dropped last minute by line holders or any other operational needs and that is when airport standby Flight Attendants get trips assigned. They don’t necessarily have to sit there for six hours as they could be assigned a trip at any time while they are on ASB and then they would leave for the trip. Can A Reserve Pick Up A Trip On Their Days Off for extra money?Yes! These trips will be credited above the guarantee up to 20 hours until the reserve guarantee has been met. So that means as a JetBlue reserve they can go up to 95 hours by picking up on their days off, even higher if they “break guarantee” and get assigned more than 75 hours on their reserve days for the month. What do you think of the JetBlue flight attendant job? How does it compare working as a flight attendant to other airlines? The more you know the better a decision you can make about which airline is a perfect fit for you. There is a lot to learn in the aviation industry, and it’s better to know what to expect before you head off to training. I hope this helped you understand a little more about the JetBlue Flight Attendant Job. You might also like: Interested In The Frontier Airlines Flight Attendant Position? Thanks for staying the facts so eloquently! Thank you Yonna! I appreciate that so much coming from a current JetBlue Inflight Crew Member. I strive to have the most accurate flight attendant / airline information on the internet. 💙✈️ 😊 What happens if you failed the drug test ? Does Jet Blue conduct the drug test on the spot at the Blue Review? Hi Jessica, I believe the JetBlue drug testing is not done on the spot at the Blue Review, you schedule it at a separate location that does the DOT drug testing. That’s how it was anyway, not sure if it changed this time around because they are always changing things up! Hi Jessica, I just had confirmation that, at this time, JetBlue is doing the drug testing at the Blue Review. Hi Deanna, how are you? Thank you much in advance. Please, I have had a VI & assessment with Jet Blue on the 18th of this month and on the 19th, a note was added to my profile stating for me to be on the lookout for further communication about the position. Do you know if this was part of the f2f? Is this a good sign? it appears that their hiring process has changed. Do you know if this observation is accurate? Thanks! Hi Erica, check your SPAM messages because they may have already sent an email. I’m not sure if it will be for the F2F or not, it’s all part of the process so my fingers are crossed for you! Hi Deanna, thank you so much! Will do! HI What are the testing score requirements for various airlines? AA, JB? United? Southwest? Spirit? Delta? AlligentAir? and Frontier? Thanks a bunch Linda Hi Linda, the testing scores at most airlines are usually 90% but United is 80% but if you need a retake, the retake must be 90%. How do you apply? I’ve always wanted to be a flight attendant Hi Stacie, here is some info to help you learn how to apply: https://futureflightattendant.com/how-to-become-a-flight-attendant/ So, I’m retiring as a Firefighter in a year. I currently work 2- 24 hour shifts a week at the fire house. Do you think I can make a reserve schedule work with that schedule? Hello John, I think it would depend on how flexible your firefighting schedule is and how they would work around your flight attendant schedule. Your reserve schedule will be unpredictable and you will have around five weeks of Flight Attendant training where you couldn’t work your other job at all. Thank you so much! I just cleared the compliance stage on my background check so waiting on that call with my training date 🤞🏼🤞🏼 I appreciate all of this! very helpful Have a wonderful day!!! You’re welcome Allan. So exciting! You’re going to love your new life. You have a wonderful day too. 💙 Hi Deanna, Which base would be the best to get off reserve, BOS or JFK? 2. How long is the wait to transfer to LAX. Thanks Allan did they send you an email saying you passed the compliance stage Hi Deanna, do you know how long people are having to be on reserve in Boston now? Hi Tracie. I’m really not sure how long the reserve is now in Boston. However, with the hiring coming to a halt and JetBlue shrinking it will be longer than it’s been in recent years. Maybe someone who is based there can weigh in for us. Thank you so much for all of the information, I have just cleared everything and received a call with my start date for training in February! Looking forward to the 5 weeks, ready to take it all in! Congratulations Larry! How exciting for you. Enjoy every moment, it’s going to fly by. 😊 Do you think JetBlue will open other bases soon? Atlanta? Hi there Deanna! I hope this message finds you well. I am currently awaiting my FTF interview for JB that is taking place next week! I have been reading through your comments regarding the drug testing. I know the same question was asked above, but I am curious to see if there was any update to their drug test process. Are they testing on the spot at Compliance Day still? Did you ever find out the answer to that? Is it possible to request Lax as your base during training? Hi Deanna, Would you happen to know if Jetblue is mandating their FA to be fully vaccinated in 2023? How often does JetBlue post job openings for flight attendants? Hi Alyssa, it’s pretty random but they are open now. I failed my jumpseat test during Jetblue training …I was told that I wouldn’t have to reapply and could try again in 6 months. Does that mean I can still keep my Jetblue job offer and just lose the weight in that time? Hi Nicole, that’s exactly what that means. I love that JetBlue gives FAs the extra time to pass the jumpseat test. You’ve got this! Hi Deanna Castro send me the link to apply it’s always my passion to be a flight attendant hey, am not from USA. I want to apply for training at jetblue. Will that be a problem? Hi Rachael, you don’t have to be from the USA to work for JetBlue but you have to be legal to work in the USA. Hi Deanna This is great information. Thank you for sharing! Do you know if there is an average wait time from clearing all test to receiving the call with training dates? How tall do you have to be to become a jet blue flight attendant?
