Book Review: The Eighth Sister by Robert Dugoni

Eighth sister

A pulse-pounding thriller of espionage, spy games, and treachery by the New York Times bestselling author of the Tracy Crosswhite Series.

Former CIA case officer Charles Jenkins is a man at a crossroads: in his early sixties, he has a family, a new baby on the way, and a security consulting business on the brink of bankruptcy. Then his former bureau chief shows up at his house with a risky new assignment: travel undercover to Moscow and locate a Russian agent believed to be killing members of a clandestine US spy cell known as the seven sisters.

Desperate for money, Jenkins agrees to the mission and heads to the Russian capital. But when he finds the mastermind agent behind the assassinations—the so-called eighth sister—she is not who or what he was led to believe. Then again, neither is anyone else in this deadly game of cat and mouse.

Pursued by a dogged Russian intelligence officer, Jenkins executes a daring escape across the Black Sea, only to find himself abandoned by the agency he serves. With his family and freedom at risk, Jenkins is in the fight of his life—against his own country.

Get out the popcorn this one is awesome!

It’s  been a while since I lost sleep reading a book, but I kid you not, The Eighth Sister is a pageturner in every sense of the word. It gripped me right from the beginning and wouldn’t let go until the final word. Spy games, counterintelligence, dilemma, betrayal, legal drama—it has it all. Former CIA case officer Charles Jenkins left the agency under unpleasant circumstances while working in Mexico city. Now much later, an old colleague pays him a visit when his security consulting firm is struggling due to financial distress. He is presented with a mission to locate a Russian agent linked with a U.S spy cell—The seven sisters—located in the highest levels of the Russian government. I can’t say too much more you’ll just have to read it. What an epic story! I sure hope Robert Dugoni continues this storyline with future books because there’s definitely room for it.

Robert Dugoni, the bestselling author of the Tracy Crosswhite police procedural series and several stand-alones, presents his newest protagonist. If you’ve eagerly devoured his previous works for their cinematic pacing, tautly written thrills and wonderfully developed characters, you’re in for all of that and so much more with THE EIGHTH SISTER.

In this series starter, we meet 60-year-old Charles Jenkins, a former CIA agent who now runs his own security company. In the past, Jenkins delighted in tormenting KGB officers in Mexico City, but he has sworn off that life in exchange for a family with his wife Alex, their son CJ and a new baby on the way. Unfortunately, his company is in serious debt, and with his wife suffering from preeclampsia, he is weathering much of the stress on his own.

That all changes when a former agency colleague pays Jenkins a surprise visit and makes him a shocking offer. Jenkins learns that back in the Cold War days, seven Russian girls were raised practically from birth to report to the United States on the KGB and the Kremlin’s doings; they were known to the CIA as the Seven Sisters. Now all in their 60s, these women had no idea the others existed --- but three have turned up dead, and the CIA has reason to believe that Putin has employed an eighth sister who has been tasked with tracking them down and murdering them.

Because Jenkins’ company has an office in Moscow and he is already trained to deal with the KGB (now the FSB), it would be easy to reinstate him just long enough to discover the identity of this eighth sister and report her to the agency. Desperate for money, Jenkins agrees, hoping that it will be an easy case. After all, he has not been assigned with any violence --- he merely has to identify the eighth sister and share her identity with the agency. Of course, nothing is as easy as it seems when international relations are concerned, and Jenkins knows he should be prepared for anything.

"As always, I am blown away by Dugoni’s ability to tackle any genre, any setting and any type of character with any background.... From the start, Dugoni pulls his readers in with an instantly likable yet complex character."

When Jenkins arrives in Russia, he stands out immediately: not only is he a six-foot-tall African American man, his status as a former CIA agent instantly raises red flags. He is well aware that the FSB knows he has entered the country and is no doubt tracking him, but then that is part of the game. His plan is to reveal some highly classified, but not dangerous, information to the first FSB agent to approach him, earn the Kremlin’s trust and hint that he knows the identities of the remaining four sisters. The agency believes that doing so will bring the eighth sister to him --- case closed. But Russia is a contradiction of a country: endlessly patient yet woefully corrupt. Jenkins will have to keep his wits about him if he is to leave Russia alive and with his mission completed.

Everything is going according to plan when Jenkins is approached by Federov, an FSB agent, and his backup, Arkady. The three meet on several occasions, and Jenkins continues to reveal classified but non-essential information slowly, as per orders. But when Federov begins to suspect that Jenkins knows more than he is letting on, their careful alliance is torn, and Jenkins is on the run. He is soon approached by a woman who also claims to work with the CIA, but as the two are sworn from revealing their sources to one another, Jenkins must enter yet another cautious alliance. He and the woman, Anna, escape the FSB narrowly, and Dugoni begins a thrilling game of cat and mouse. The more Jenkins and Anna talk, the more it seems that one or both of them have been set up --- and not by the Russian government. With the FSB on his tail and many lives (including his family’s) at risk, Jenkins is left more or less stranded in Russia with only his decades-old training, his keen eye and some serious espionage potential.

Whenever I pick up one of Dugoni’s books, I know that I will be greeted with a hard-hitting issue that truly feels “ripped from the headlines.” Focusing on international relations between America and Russia, THE EIGHTH SISTER is no different, though Dugoni does a fabulous job of filling in just enough fiction to offer his readers a reprieve from the news. The book is divided into two parts, with the first acting as more of a spy thriller and the second asking about the legality of it all with some hearty courtroom drama. Whether you’re a fan of the Tracy Crosswhite series or enjoyed THE 7th CANON, you definitely will find something to love in THE EIGHTH SISTER, with the thrill of international espionage adding a new element to the mix.

As always, I am blown away by Dugoni’s ability to tackle any genre, any setting and any type of character with any background. It seems like I am exaggerating, I know, but I feel certain that anyone who has read him will back me up. From the start, he pulls his readers in with an instantly likable yet complex character. With Jenkins, his age sets him apart, but adds a nice layer of humanity that I was worried I would miss in transitioning from his Tracy Crosswhite series. At 60 years old, Jenkins is not just an adventurous CIA agent; he has way more on his mind than the Jason Bournes and Jack Ryans of the world.

Surprisingly, I also loved Federov, the book’s relentless villain. With alternating chapters told from his point of view, readers are able to enter a more Russian mindset. Although I was rooting against Federov officially, I loved seeing the chase from his perspective and sort of almost wanted him to catch Jenkins as much as I wanted Jenkins to get away. Confusing though it may sound, my enjoyment of Federov is just another example of Dugoni’s masterful characterizations.

I was also mesmerized by the little details Dugoni employs to keep his settings fresh and realistic. For example, his descriptions of Russian protocol with espionage, bribery and secrecy were all fascinating and decidedly different from what I would expect from similar books set in the United States or other countries. It is clear that Dugoni researched endlessly for THE EIGHTH SISTER, and yet, as I mentioned earlier, it never feels bogged down by too many facts.

All of that said, I will add that this novel seemed a bit more “out there” than your typical Dugoni book. But if you are willing to suspend your disbelief a bit, you will be treated to a truly action-packed, fast-paced and absolutely exhilarating thrill ride --- and, perhaps in Charles Jenkins, your new favorite character.

Review: ‘The Eighth Sister’ is a gripping thriller

  • Copy Link copied

“The Eighth Sister” by Robert Dugoni (Thomas and Mercer).

Charles Jenkins has left his time in the CIA far behind and now lives with his family on a farm on a remote island in Washington state. His wife is expecting their second child, and he runs a security consulting business to pay the bills. When financial issues force him to contemplate how to pay his employees while at the same time keeping his wife as stress-free as possible due to pregnancy complications, Jenkins receives an offer he should refuse.

His former boss arrives at the farm and asks him to travel undercover to Moscow to find a Russian operative targeting agents from the United States that were part of an operation known as the “Seven Sisters.” The hope is that when Jenkins arrives in Russia and starts to ask questions, the elusive agent known as the Eighth Sister will make her presence known. Jenkins desperately needs the money, so he reluctantly agrees to the mission.

The initial routine assignment soon turns deadly when Jenkins stumbles upon a buried secret, and with that comes the wrath of a Russian intelligence officer. He wants Jenkins eliminated, and like Javert in “Les Miserables,” will not give up under any circumstances. Now it becomes a race as Jenkins tries to escape foreign territory while the climate favors an angry Russian official who wants his brand of justice.

Robert Dugoni has crafted a thriller with “The Eighth Sister” that echoes the best of classic Russian literature with a hint of John LeCarre added to the mix. When the storyline veers into predictability, the narrative takes a drastic turn and becomes a legal drama that will remind readers of Scott Turow’s best. This novel is destined to be a classic in the genre, and Dugoni is arguably one of the best writers in the field right now.

Introduction

I throughly enjoyed listening to this spy thriller! I wouldn’t normally pick a story about espionage and US/Russia but it kept my attention and was a nice change would recommend!

Book Review; The Eighth Sister by Robert Dugoni

A good spy novel can be the vacation that one needs from the everyday monotony of regular life. When I was asked if I’d like to review The Eighth Sister by Robert Dugoni, I was happy to do so. This novel brings in a CIA case officer and a Russian Agent believed to be the eighth sister in a clandestine US spy cell known as the seven sisters.

This novel has a lot going on, and it’s fast-paced. Russia has its own presence in the novel, and he uses all the tools in his writers’ notebook to create engaging well-rounded characters. If you enjoy spy, thrillers, you’ll enjoy this novel.

Congratulations to Robert Dugoni today on his book launch of The Eighth Sister, Book 1 of the Charles Jenkins series. (Now’s your chance, people, it’s Book ONE!)

Book blurb:.

The Eighth Sister by Robert Dugoni

Sixty-something Charles Jenkins, ex CIA, has become desperate for money. His security firm (which has offices abroad–including Moscow) has been shorted a number of payments and forced his own debts delinquent, teetering on bankruptcy. He is married and has a nine-year-old son…his much younger wife Alex is pregnant with their second child. Her pregnancy isn’t going smoothly and she has had to step back from her duties at their business.

He is surprised by an unannounced visit from his former case manager in Mexico City who has a proposal he cannot refuse. Jenkins had left disillusioned abruptly after the last CIA mission in Mexico went sideways almost forty years ago. This mission involves contact in Moscow to try and filter out the Russian agent who is believed responsible for killing members of a US spy circle known as the seven sisters. He knows two have already died and asserts that Jenkins is the best man for the job with a great undercover story, speaks fluent Russian, and is familiar with CIA operations. One minor hitch–he’s a 6’5″ black man and may stand out just a tad in Russia.

Almost from the beginning, just when you think you understand where this is going to go, the storyline takes a 90-degree turn. You are introduced to “family man” Viktor of the FSB (formerly KGB) and Paulina, both of whom become empathetic, and earn tons of respect. Okay, yes, Viktor is FSB. He isn’t going to be a good guy (and there were times I visualized Putin). And then the battle when this went sideways as well, the flee for his life.

But then, what? Home, but not safe. Just when you thought the desperate effort to survive was over, the desperation simply takes on a new direction. We are reintroduced to David Sloan (an early Dugoni series protagonist), Jenkins attorney. Sloan may have aged a bit as well, but he’s still AI smart. And he knows the law, the ins and outs of the court system. I thoroughly enjoyed the courtroom drama and the manipulation of information.

Dialogue is intelligent, sometimes sparring (particularly between him and Viktor, and often incorporates the language of the country he is in (or fleeing). Jenkins is a winner and I was often reminded of Clint Eastwood; aging but still very effective. Paulina is immensely appealing. The well-plotted narrative never lets you relax or take a breath. It’s easy to feel the teeth-chattering cold, the terror of escaping by inches. And, as “they” say, sixty-four “is the new forty.”

I was thrilled to get this ebook download from the publisher and NetGalley and greatly appreciated the opportunity to read one of my favorite author’s new books. I’ve read two in his Tracy Crosswhite series, A Steep Price and Close to Home and enjoyed both. His writing style always sets you up for a satisfying journey through the pages. Can’t wait for book 2! Highly recommended.

Book Review: The Eighth Sister by Robert Dugoni

April 11, 2019 at 10:23 am by Claudia

the eighth sister book review

Today I am reviewing The Eighth Sister by Robert Dugoni for TLC Book Tours . Thank you to TLC and to Thomas & Mercer for the Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.

About the book (from the publisher): Former CIA case officer Charles Jenkins is a man at a crossroads: in his early sixties, a new baby on the way, and a security consulting business on the brink of bankruptcy.

But when he finds the mastermind agent behind the assassinations – the so-called eighth sister – she is not who or what she is led to believe. Then again, neither is anyone else is this deadly game of cat and mouse.

Pursued by a dogged Russian intelligence officer, Jenkins executes a daring escape across the Black Sea, only to find himself abandoned by the agency he serves. With his family and freedom at risk, Jenkins is in the fight of his life – against his own country.

My review:  In the spirit of full transparency, I’ve long been a fan of Robert Dugoni’s books. I have reviewed a few of the books in his Tracy Crosswhite Series on this blog; Tracy being a police detective in the Pacific Northwest. Like his other books, this book starts and ends in that same area of the country, where Charles Jenkins lives with his wife and young son.

But the locale quickly changes to Moscow, the Black Sea and other parts of the world, as Jenkins goes on his secret mission for the CIA. Dugoni clearly knows Moscow and his descriptions of that part of the world are evocative. Time and place are beautifully written in all of Dugoni’s books, so the reader feels immersed in the temperature of the air, the surrounding landscape, biting winds, the cold sea water. We are not only caught up in the story, we’re caught up in place. As it should be.

This is a new direction for Dugoni, who has at least three series going: Tracy Crosswhite, David Sloan, and now, Charles Jenkins. I haven’t read any of the David Sloane Series – he’s a lawyer – but he plays a big role in this story as Jenkins’ close friend and lawyer.

Dugoni is a great storyteller. This story has many layers, many twists and turns, and to Dugoni’s credit, I couldn’t put it down. The plot is a complicated one, yet Dugoni deftly guides the reader through it while the suspense builds to a crescendo.

I’ve read a lot of spy thrillers and they can feel a little cold and distant. I’m not sure why – is it the nature of the spy who must do his job no matter what? Who must live a life where he is undercover, precluding any sort of emotional attachments? I suspect so. However, with this book, Dugoni has created a reluctant   spy who has strong emotional attachments to his family and friends, who has a strong sense of morality, and who, despite his reluctance, commits to the mission with honor. He’s fascinating.

A thoroughly riveting and enjoyable read.

I think you’ll like this book. I know I did.

About the author: Robert Dugoni is the critically acclaimed New York Times , Wall Street Journal , and Amazon bestselling author of the Tracy Crosswhite Series, which has sold more than 3.5 million books worldwide. He is also the author of the bestselling David Sloane Series; the stand-alone novels The 7th Canon , Damage Control , and The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell , for which he won an AudioFile Earphones Award for the narration; and the nonfiction exposé The Cyanide Canary , a Washington Post   Best Book of the Year. He is the recipient of the Nancy Pearl Award for Fiction and the Friends of Mystery Spotted Owl Award for best novel set the the Pacific Northwest. He is a two-time finalist for the International Thriller Award, the Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction, the Silver Falchion Award for mystery, and the Mystery Writers of America Edgar Award. His books are sold in more the twenty-five countries and have been translated into more than two dozen languages.

Good news! I am giving away a copy of The Eighth Sister ! (USA and Canada) Just leave a comment on this post (not on the email version of this post) to be considered. On Sunday evening, using the Random Number Generator, I will pick a winner. Good luck!

Happy Thursday.

Good afternoon Claudia! I love spy thrillers as does my husband. Maybe the fact that both our fathers worked for NSA had something to do with it. Considering it is 20 minutes from my home, I’m surrounded by spies! If we win, after we read it I will add it to my Little Free Library for others to enjoy!

I read this book, too, and liked it very much, I’ve read several Robert Dugoni books before, and this is his best . I’ve also read books from both of his other series, and the David Sloane series is better than the Tracy C. series. And David Sloane is back in THE EIGHTH SISTER, I’m glad to say.

In this book, descriptions of Russia and Turkey sound so authentic that I wondered throughout this part where and how Dugoni got his information. (Read the “Acknowledgements.”) These details, along with Jenkins’s struggles there, make this the best kind of book, i.e., the unputdownable kind, the kind you have to keep reading, even during lunch and dinner.

Review: ‘Blue Sisters’ by Coco Mellors perfectly underscores the meaning of sisterhood

I have been eagerly waiting to read “Blue Sisters” by Coco Mellors since early May, when I asked a bookseller at McNally Jackson Books if a copy could be held for me. The book went on sale in the United States on Sept. 3, and I think it’s safe to say I was one of the first people in the country to buy it that Tuesday morning.

“Blue Sisters” is Mellors’ second book following her bestselling debut novel “ Cleopatra and Frankenstein ,” which was met with high acclaim from highbrow book reviewers when it was released in 2022. Mellors wrote her first book while at NYU’s Graduate School of Arts & Science, where she received an MFA in fiction. While the stakes were high for Mellors’ highly-anticipated second book, she delivered.

The story follows the lives of the three Blue sisters after the first anniversary of their sister Nicky’s death. Avery, the oldest, is a recovered-addict-turned-lawyer living in London with her wife. Bonnie, the second-oldest, is a former professional boxer living in Los Angeles. Lucky, the youngest, lives in Paris as a high fashion model. The book alternates between all three sisters’ points of view, with each character having their own chapters.

Nicky, the third child, was living alone in the Blue’s childhood home on the Upper West Side, working as a teacher. Suffering from severe endometriosis, Bonnie found Nicky dead in the apartment, having overdosed on laced painkillers.

Growing up in close quarters with an alcoholic father and mother lacking the maternal gene, the girls learned to lean on one another, but especially Avery. They eventually went their own ways and naturally grew apart. By the time Nicky had died, each sister started her own life, leaving behind the close-knit relationship that defined their youth. And though no dramatic fight had torn the sisters apart, it becomes clear that there are underlying tensions when they call each other to commemorate Nicky’s death at the start of the book.

Each sister is grieving in her own way, struggling to admit her suffering to herself and her other sisters. After Nicky’s death, Avery finds herself becoming addicted to something again, but this time it’s stealing. She also isn’t doing herself any favors in her relationship, betraying her wife and making poor choices. Bonnie lives a lonely life as an uninspired nightclub bouncer after quitting boxing immediately after Nicky’s death, and Lucky messes up her career while slipping fast into alcoholism.

But the sisters won’t admit these things to each other. Avery wants to protect Lucky and Bonnie from further harm, Bonnie wants to fix Lucky and look up to a struggling Avery and Lucky wants her sisters to believe that she can take care of herself. This sibling dynamic, in addition to their secretive stubbornness, leads all of them to deeper suffering. Readers get caught in the tangled web of their phone conversations, seeing their arguments and miscommunications from multiple points of view.

Eventually, all of their struggles come to a head when they reunite in the New York apartment to grapple with their grief together. The pacing throughout the story was perfectly timed, allowing readers to fully learn about each character before everybody came together towards the end.

Mellors’ prose is exquisite but not contrived, making for an approachable literary read. Each character feels real from the beginning, with each sister written as a complex human being, even Nicky, who is gone before readers get to meet her. Nicky was a sensitive young woman full of joy and excitement for life, channeled through her femininity, shamelessly listening to teen pop music as an adult and prioritizing female friendships.

Despite complete and honest representations of each sister, Mellors makes it clear that each girl is undoubtedly one part of a shattered whole, with a gaping feeling lingering beneath the surface. This feeling is created through Mellors’ fantastic way of showing — not telling — readers how the death impacts the Blue family, like when Avery bathes Lucky after a night of partying and sadly repeats “not you too” as she washes her hair.

Mellors is a masterful storyteller, weaving complex themes into a streamlined plot. Exploring familial addiction, sisterhood dynamics, inequities in women’s health and, above all, the complex ways of grieving, “Blue Sisters” is a deeply sensitive book with unique characters that are impossible not to love. Mellors built an entire world out of one family’s struggles, allowing for a sweeping and universal analysis of sisterhood.

Harry Styles' sister Gemma reveals struggle with suicidal thoughts amid depression battle

Gemma Styles has opened up about her battle with depression and how she once struggled with suicidal thoughts.

In her new book, Why Am I Like This?, the 33-year-old sister of pop star Harry Styles shares her deeply personal journey in hopes of helping others facing similar struggles.

Despite being "fiercely private," the writer told The Mirror that she wanted to break the silence surrounding mental health.

“One of the things shown to have the most positive impact on people having suicidal thoughts or in the depths of depression is to share stories when you go 'that happened to me. I felt like that, and I feel better now',” she explained.

Styles admitted that while she didn’t “actively want to die”, she “so badly wanted to opt out of what my life had become, it boiled down to the same longing.”

The podcaster, who welcomed her first child with partner Michal Miynowski earlier this year, said that while she currently feels good, she fears depression could return one day.

the eighth sister book review

She continued: “In the back of my mind, sometimes I think that could happen to me again but I try not to dwell on it. I have come though it before and I could do it again.”

In February, the author announced that she had given birth to her first child following a secret pregnancy.

At the time, she took to Instagram to share the happy news along with pictures of her and partner with their newborn daughter.

She captioned her post: “Hello from  maternity leave ! Took some time off to ensure the safe arrival of our baby girl, who is adored by her whole family.

“I know that this news can be difficult for many people and I'm sending you lots of love.”

The pair have been together since 2015. One of their earliest dates was watching her younger brother Harry, 31, perform with his former boyband One Direction.

During the gig at the Apple Music Festival, Harry told the crowd: “I'm sorry if I seem distracted. My sister's here on a date, and I'm trying to keep an eye on it.”

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3 Adds First 5 New Cast Members

The walking dead: daryl dixon - the book of carol review - carol’s return packs a punch in weaker season, zack snyder's netflix mythological series earns better rotten tomatoes score than his rebel moon movies.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol , or The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2, continues the story of its titular character’s sojourn in France. Norman Reedus is back as Daryl, and is joined by fellow The Walking Dead alumni Melissa McBride in one of the franchise’s most anticipated character reunions. Carol’s arrival comes after the small victory won at the end of the first season, but in the midst of an ongoing struggle between the Union de l’Espoir (Union of Hope) and Pouvoir Des Vivants (Power of the Living).

Two characters at the heart of this conflict are head of Pouvoir Des Vivants, Marion Genet (played by Anne Charrier) and the soldier Stephane Codron (Romain Levi). Against the backdrop of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2’s new zombie variants and post-apocalyptic world, Genet is as determined as ever to triumph over the Union de l’Espoir despite her defeat in season 1. Codron, on the other hand, chose to help Daryl and Laurent at the end of the first season—an action which will certainly have repercussions in season 2.

Screen Rant interviewed Anne Charrier and Romain Levi about their work on The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol. Charrier and Levi revealed their characters’ mindsets going into the second season and how the arrival of Carol affects The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2’s conflict . Plus, they reflected on watching Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride reunite behind the scenes.

Romain Levi Reveals Where We Pick Up With Codron In Season 2

"he really thinks he's going to die".

romain levi codron walking dead daryl dixon

Screen Rant: Codron is not in a great place when we meet him this season. Can you talk about what happened to him in between season one and when we meet him again in season two?

Romain Levi: At the end of season one he's with Genet, and Genet is very strong and very smart, so it was quite easy for her to feel the lie. From that moment, Codron is in jail, and Genet will try to get information [from him]. She's ready to do a lot of things in order to get this information, and Codron will do everything he can to keep the silence. Codron is very aware that he’s made a lot of mistakes in his life, and now I do believe that at that moment he really thinks that the only good thing he can do is help the kid (Laurent) by just staying silent. He doesn't really think that he will survive—he really thinks he's going to die, [though] he doesn't know when. Just one good thing [would be] to keep the silence.

Codron is really beat up. It seems like you worked a lot with makeup and even wore an eye covering, or eye patch. As an actor, as someone who is doing fight scenes and physical stuff, was it hard to get used to working with all of that?

Romain Levi: I have to admit that it wasn't so easy. For some reason that I don't really understand myself, when it was dark I didn't have trouble walking, but I had trouble seeing what was going on on the ground. A lot of times I almost fell because I didn't see that or didn't see that, and it was very hard to get used to it. But with time you start to feel okay, and you adapt to it. But yeah, it wasn't so easy, I have to say.

Anne Charrier Discusses Genet's Past & Present

"she's a desperate case".

Anne Charrier as Genet in The Walking Dead Daryl Dixon Book of Carol

Anne, it’s clear that Genet did not really get what she wanted last season. When you came back to the character this season and read the scripts, did you feel like the events of the last six episodes had changed her at all?

Anne Charrier: I'm not sure it has changed her so much. I think she's a desperate case. She's too angry. She’s going to have to follow the path of what happened for her because she's been asked questions about why she is the way she is. I'm trying to find a way to talk about it without [giving anything away]. But to get back to what Romain was saying, there's something very strong happening between the two of them. It's, again, someone that is going to disappoint her. It’s just feeding the monster that she is. She really thought, when she met him, that she found someone like her. Someone she could trust, and [who] was hurt the way she was hurt when she started to become who she is. She [thought she] could be the same thing around him and they could be strong together, but, obviously, she couldn't trust him.

Even in the trailer for the season, we see a shot of you in the Louvre, and it looks like it's before everything. Without giving too much away, how was it for you to explore that and shoot scenes that were before the apocalypse?

Anne Charrier: It was great. It's great because you see Paris before [the apocalypse]. Even though we had a few [scenes like that] for Isabelle's background and a few backgrounds, it was great. It was very special for us because it's our city to get to be in those places and to have them for ourselves… it's very privileged to be able to walk in the Louvre and in front of the Mona Lisa and stuff like that. Then, about the story, it was very interesting—and I hope it's going to be interesting for the audience as well—to know what Genet was before, and what kind of character she was. She wasn't at all the way she is now.

Were you afraid to mess up the paintings?

Anne Charrier: Not much, actually. No. No, I felt really [good]. I didn't care about the paintings. I cared about myself inside. I was like, “We're inside!” Having the time between the shoots to look at the paintings and to lose yourself… you never get that chance. In the Louvre, you never get to see the paintings so close, in such a quiet atmosphere. Even though there were lots of people on the set, it was never like the Louvre on a casual day.

Levi & Charrier Reflect On Witnessing The Reunion Of Norman Reedus & Melissa McBride

They're "like brother and sister".

melissa mcbride as carol in walking dead daryl dixon book of carol

Both of you worked with Melissa McBride this season. Daryl and Carol are close in the show. How much is the behind-the-scenes relationship between Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride like the relationship between their characters?

Romain Levi: I remember that every first day I saw them together. It was amazing. I didn't have a scene to play at that moment, so I was just enjoying the moment, walking [around] the set, and suddenly I saw them together like that, having a conversation, having fun. I was a bit hypnotized, to tell you the truth. It was so amazing, and their relationship is amazing. They're having fun. We feel they’re like brothers and sisters, really. We feel that they know each other so well. They’re amazing together. Anne Charrier: Yeah, that's exactly what I feel as well. Even though I didn't have many scenes with the two of them, there's a lot of trust, I believe. I didn't ask them, but you feel that there's something very easy between them. I would say the same as Romain, something like brother and sister. I believe they've been working for so long together and they probably have that relationship somewhere in their life as well, so they wanted to pursue it.

About The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book Of Carol

The new season picks up where The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon left off, following fan-favorite characters Daryl Dixon (Reedus) and Carol Peletier (McBride). They both confront old demons while she fights to find her friend and he struggles with his decision to stay in France, causing tension at the Nest. Additionally, Genet’s (Anne Charrier) movement builds momentum, setting Pouvoir on a violent collision course with the Union of Hope in the fight for France's future.

The Eighth Sister: A Thriller (Charles Jenkins, Book 1) Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

An Amazon Charts, Washington Post , and Wall Street Journal bestseller.

But when he finds the mastermind agent behind the assassinations - the so-called eighth sister - she is not who or what he was led to believe. Then again, neither is anyone else in this deadly game of cat and mouse.

Pursued by a dogged Russian intelligence officer, Jenkins executes a daring escape across the Black Sea, only to find himself abandoned by the agency he serves. With his family and freedom at risk, Jenkins is in the fight of his life - against his own country.
