This is phenomenally bad but you really should check it out. Every scene is the worst form of the scene it can be. Dennis Hopper displays a phoned in performance that can only be topped by his role in 24. All the characters are wild caricatures of cliche roles. During the knife stabbings, the music is ripped straight from Psycho and it sounds like someone is squeezing jello next to the microphone. The twists and turns aren't so much clever as much as the movie is incoherent. It's like an assault of babbling nonsense from all fronts.
You really gotta see this one

There are hundreds, if not thousands of movies that I would love to have in pristine quality on UHD. And they put a mediocre DTV production on UHD. Fate is really ridiculing me…

Despite his success with the film SPEED,Dennis Hopper(BLUE VELVET,HOOSIERS) spend the latter years of his career(from the late 90s to the mid 00s/2000s) acting in a large array of Straight-To-VHS video/DVD films.with this David Worth(KICKBOXER[1989],LADY DRAGON) directed thriller being one of them as it has Hopper as a retired cop who is brought back into the game of police work when he is recruited by a local police chief(Joe Penny[S.O.B.,BITTERSWEET]) to aid the police in investigating a series of grisly killings that are committed by a shadowy killer known as the Prophet, who is enacting a childhood game that their father(Don Sawyze[EACH BABES FROM BEYOND,DEATH RING]) was strongly against(and violently lashed out against) as Hopper's adult daughter was one of the…

Not my cup of tea of movie.
Retired Detective Vincent swan, receives a post card, with the words "i want to play a game". this then Sets Swan on a mission to understand the riddles the killer is giving the victims of the Game they are playing. I found this not to be my cup of tea of film as the story felt like the scream films were the person has to play a game on the phone and if not answered right, the person on the phone would be murdered, and also did not like the reveal of the killer as i would have prefferd a bit more back story to how the killer knew Swan. Over all it wasn't my cup of tea of film, also much prefer Hopper in Easy rider and the speed film then this film.

This is pretty "bad" in many ways but I had a great time watching it! This definitely could be a candidate for a Vinegar Syndrome release 😉 There are so many odd choices made with dialog, situations, shots, etc that it made it quite fun to keep watching to see it unfold.
I guess I have to rate it low since it's so bad, but I will hit the Like button since I was entertained and had a good time watching it 😉👍
I saw the cast list on this one and then saw who the director is and I had to turn this on! 👍

Another solid post Se7en direct to video thriller. This one has an excellent cast, and is an interesting mystery (even if it is predictable and obvious).

My second exposure to the Straight To DVD Dennis Hopper Era and I don't like it. Generic concept with really nothing to it beyond a name being involved in it, and it sucks because the name is why I wanted to give this a try

Dennis Hopper plays an aging detective chasing the serial killer who murdered his daughter. Really wild early 2000’s stuff. For some reason all the wounds are gray? Even the fresh ones? Shannon Whirry’s boobs were blurred out too, so maybe I just watched a weird copy. The crossword expert is whack.

I didn’t know Don Swayze was a person until I watched this movie.

Dennis Hopper as a retired detective tracking down a serial killer with Stephanie Zimbalist
Dennis Hopper stars as Vincent Swan, a retired detective from Seattle who is asked to fly to Los Angeles to help solve a new rash of murders similar to a case he supposedly solved a dozen years earlier. Stephanie Zimbalist co-stars as "Al," a frustrated officer assigned to keep an eye on Swan while the hardboiled chief of detectives conducts the investigation (Joe Penny). Robert Yocum, Shannon Whirry, Greg Lauren, Michael Dorn and Sondra Locke are also on hand.

The Prophet's Game: Directed by David Worth. With Dennis Hopper, Stephanie Zimbalist, Robert Yocum, Joe Penny. A Seattle Homicide Detective (Dennis Hopper) is on the hunt of a twisted serial killer.
The idea of the prophet's game itself is interesting, and could make a pretty good movie, but this isn't it. It's too bogged down in revenge, police politics, and laughable action to go anywhere, and the ending is unbelievably unsatisfying, with so much still left unanswered.

Dec 31, 1999 · The Prophet’s Game is a modestly effective serial killer thriller. It is a minor effort that has only done the video/cable circuit without obtaining any notice. The central Prophet’s Game is in itself dull and not particularly gripping an idea but the film around it is absorbingly told and holds several effective twists.
