Wireless technology is compatible with other parts of information systems. This is based on the research that has been done. Researchers have come across some amazing changes in the information technology industry. This decision has been enhanced by the studies which were conducted and also the numerous meetings that have been conducted by the professionals who are in the information technology industry.

Wireless technology has been used since its inception to meet numerous needs. It is said that the wireless network was first used by the Japanese in their quest to be a renowned leader in information technology. The most obvious being to connect laptops and palmtops owners who were travelers in various different locations. Wireless technology is also used in mobile networking and this is enabled through the satellite. Wireless networking is somewhat similar to the Large Area Network only that in a wireless network, one has the capability to switch locations to suit one’s needs (Firestone 88).

Wireless technology is supported by several situations. These also justify the use of this technology that has brought numerous state-of-the-art changes in the information technology sector. Wireless technology has the capability to cover an enormous distance which might seem impossible or might require a lot of capital when laying down cables. It has proven to be cost-effective in this manner and also there are no more worries about vandalism. A wireless network has the capability to remotely connect users of a certain network in a bid to share information about a certain job that they are doing or basically exchange information. It has also been used in the setting up and also linking of temporary workstations. A good example of application is in investment firms where they have different product launches. In such instances, they do not need to transfer an entire office to a different site but just set up a small workstation and all the information is available once the connection picks up and the relevant viewing rights are issued. Wireless networking has been of great use when it comes to providing backup in communication links whenever there is a case of network failure.

Most of the times people often mistake the word wireless to mean cordless. Cordless simply refers to those equipment that probably were wired to some form of power source but probably after their improvement in terms of technology they no longer require to be plugged in to operate (Rackley 27). A good example is the home and office phones which do not have cables attached to the handset.

Information technology keeps changing and because of this aspect there may be a lot of unresolved issues. Some of them are how to connect to the entire world without using the data cables being laid out in the sea. This is of great concern considering how large the ocean is and if there were to be a breakage in the cable there would be no way in identifying where it has been damaged from. Moreover, it would cost a huge amount of money to lay the cable only. Another unresolved I.T related issue is the hacking business. It seems like it is almost impossible to get rid of this group of people but the way against hacking at least keeps them at bay. Connecting the entire world is also another issue that is yet to be resolved. In Africa, there are some communities that are yet to get information as it ought to be. These people need to have access to computers in a bid to have them connect to the rest of the world. Sadly there is nothing much being done to support this move as these communities have more problems beckoning and I.T issues are just secondary problems to them.

Other issues that need to be considered in using wireless other than technology should be: Wireless technology is indeed of great use and it has really made it simple for offices to coordinate their field employees. When dealing with wireless it is important to consider the cost that one might incur in a bid to switch to the wireless network versus the amount that will be saved when this technology comes in. Also consider the materials used.

Wireless technology has it advantages and disadvantages. In my opinion, the advantages out weigh the disadvantages and this technology is of great importance in the information technology industry. It has somehow revolutionized how the I.T equipment is connected in a bid to give the desired results (Powell & Shim 102). The future of information technology, and to be precise the wireless sector, is bright and is undoubtedly unified. There are great strides that have been made in interconnecting equipment like satellites, radio, cell phone and many more. In the quest to develop wireless technology and also the drive towards unification of technology, the two moves are still neck to neck in a bid to shine.

Technology is improving nowadays at a very exponential rate and this does not need any proof as it is evident from day to day. Taking cellphones as a case-study, we can see that there has been drastic improvements in the outlook and models of mobile phones and other technological devices since their inception. Everybody has stopped using the usual cell phones and almost everyone now use smart phones which is a great leap from what technology used to be a decade ago. Sometimes we wonder why and how technology has improved so exponentially but a scientist has predicted this exponential growth of technology and this prediction is known as Moore’s Law. Moore’s Law states that the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits had doubled every year since the integrated circuits was invented and this would continue as a trend in the future (MooresLaw.org). Why do we care? We care because there is a direct relationship between technology and business, and as technology expands, business can be globalized. A substantial part of the upturn in measured productivity can be linked to increased real investments in technology (Brynjolffson et al, 2000). Wireless technology has helped business in many ways like globalization, advertisement, communication, transportation, organization, customer relationships and a lot more of which would be explained in this essay.

Firstly, the inception of wireless technology has brought about innovativeness in organizations, companies and individuals. Mobile E-commerce has given people an avenue to find a new way to make their products and services more appealing to customers and this can be done through various ways. For example, if one needs to send a package and there are two postal services; one which has an online tracking feature, and one which does not. Most people would tend to choose the one which can be tracked because everyone wants to go for the easier things. People like things that can be perceived as easy. Perceived ease of use is an individual’s assessment of the extent to which interaction with a specific information system or technology is free of mental effort (Lu et al, 2005). This also applies to other business organizations as they would strive to make their services better and more appealing to their customers.

Another way by which wireless technology has helped business is in the aspect of communications. There are many ways through which wireless technology has improved communication immensely. Social media is a way through which business organizations reach out to people. Because of the ease of communication, information can be easily disseminated amongst many people in such a short period of time. Also, it is very easy for employees to communicate with employees and it is also very easy for employers to communicate with employees as almost everybody now has one mobile communicating device or the other.

Also the ease of communication has brought about another advantage of technology to the business world and this advantage is globalization. Because everyone around the world can easily get information from anywhere, it has made both small and big companies channel their tentacles outside of their local environment. The world is becoming a global village and it is facilitated by communication technologies. Technology has reduced cultural distance, thereby making the world closer and closer (Charles et al, 2001). Apart from the abstract distance that has been narrowed, the advent of GPS (Global Positioning Systems) has also made impossible places become accessible. In the past, some people might be so scared to drive to wherever they need to go physically but because of the creation of GPS, a lot of people can even drive solely to a place where they need to be. Employees can be sent on errands without worries, and companies of like minds can meet together without worrying.

Another important way through which wireless technology has helped business is in organization. Companies have a more organized schedule due to wireless technology. Many companies provide their employees with wireless devices to aid them in their work. For example many big companies that have the need for tight security provide their security team with walkie-talkies and other devices that can make them perform efficiently and communicate adequately during emergencies. Also people can just get on a lot of companies website and get immediate response for whatever they want. For example, Subway just added a new feature to their website where one can order food online and pick it up in store. This helps people find ease while doing whatever they want to do.

Furthermore, another important positive effect of wireless technology closer customer relationships. Nowadays, when people are unsatisfied with a product or service, they have access to file their complaint appropriately and quickly. Many big companies have a customer service representative team that represent the company and take complaints. Also when the customer has unlimited access to information about the company, it makes the customer feel closer to the person rendering service to them. For example, if one had problems with their cable network provider when there were not many smartphones, then one would feel frustrated about being far away and have to go to a nearby outlet of the cable network provider. However If the same thing happens now, the first thing most people would grab would be their phones and go to the website of this company. Sometimes, if a customer is very interested in a business, he/she would follow them on social media and be updated if there is something wrong. This makes the customer closer to the service providers.

In addition, business organizations have put into use technology in the aspect of mobile application because of more efficiency. Mobile commerce (m?commerce) driven by wireless technology is generating interest from marketers. A partnership between marketers and technology developers is needed to create a successful application (Stan et al, 2005). Therefore this interest is further pursued and applications are developed. Many of this applications are useful in the long run despite the cost or clashes that might ensue with the developer. Due to the high usage of smartphones, people just need to have applications on their wireless devices that can get then closer to what they want. This is also a good thing on the part of the marketer because people would patronize for more products and services if they don’t have to go a long way to get it.

Finally, the last advantage of technology to business is being able to use wireless internet networks (Wi-Fi), and also being able to access information without much stress. We all know that switching from using the modem and wired internet to Wireless has been of tremendous help. One can easily access information on the go, without having to worry about going to a cyber café or somewhere else like that. A marketer who needs an information urgently while on the road can easily pull out his/her mobile device and check for it on the internet. Also many wireless devices can set reminders and also have personal assistants. For example, for a phone brand called apple, there is a personal assistant called Siri and she can virtually do anything that is asked of her as long as it is specified out. This could come in very handy at some times.

In conclusion, there are many ways by which wireless technology has helped business and this can in no way be fully covered in a 4-page essay like this. Wireless technology in America

Wireless technology is a technology that is employed in transfer of information from one point to another that are not physically connected (Powell and Shim 71). Distance of separation varies from short range like for television remote control to long range distances like the case for deep-space radio exchanges. It covers cellular phones, fixed mobile and portable two-way radios, PDAs and wireless networking. GPS units, garage door openers, wireless computer mice, headphones, satellite television, broadcast TV and cordless phones.

A portion of America’s population is still living on the left side (not connected) of the digital divide and the US government is taking initiative of moving them to the right side so as to close the gap. Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has announced a plan to roll out broadband connectivity and address digital literacy to homes, business organizations, and anchor associations in rural parts of America. “Digital literacy refers to the basic skills necessary to seize the opportunities of broadband internet – how to use a computer, navigate the web, or take actions like preparing and uploading an online recommence, or processing a basic internet transaction”

“Connect to compete” is a private and for no profit making partnership that is designed to uphold broadband adoption and improve outcomes in marginalized communities (Zheng 81). At the moment, about eighteen million American population lives in areas short of broadband infrastructure. There are plans already underway to reform the Universal Service Fund and intercarrier compensation system so as to bring broadband to millions of unserved population, aiding them secure jobs, save money, access educational opportunities and quality health care. The same would heighten job creation, enabling new construction jobs and empowering small-town small businesses that will finally have a chance to compete (Pursell 892).

The benefits of the reform in question are not only constrained to helping the consumer but also help the landline and mobile telephone subscribers save money on their long distance bills. Consumers receive benefits of more than one billion every year.

In America, the cost of eliminating the digital divide has threatened to be high causing more troubles the state. In education, the students have to use the internet in using their online research and teachers interact with their families via internet.

American Teleservices Association has utilized wireless technology in creating jobs. The chairman of FCC said that the association had announced creation of ten thousands of call center jobs of which many of them would be performed at home. Jobs4America initiate has also announced one hundred thousand new call center jobs in the United States within a bracket of two years.

There are so many ways in which America is challenged with absence of wireless broadband access. One recent study reveals that consumers who are well equipped with wireless broadband access save seven thousand US dollars yearly from discounts offered over the internet for items purchased online.

For multitude of Americans, online services are only available at libraries. For millions more, libraries are imperative complement to home connectivity, and they linger as they always have been, a trusted facility in communities.

Libraries in America have been turned to be job centers and the librarians have become career counselors since during the daytime, many people visits these libraries to apply for jobs. The students also visit the libraries to carry out their school tasks. In the previous year, thirty million Americans have been reported to be using libraries to apply for jobs. Twelve million children spent their time in these libraries to do their homework. Other Americans are using library wireless connections for health information. About sixteen thousand public libraries in America have become important centers for digital literacy.

E-Rate program is another initiate program for American population designed to connect schools and libraries to internet using wireless technology.

America is however barred by some factors in the attempt to adopt broadband. According to FCC chairman Julius Genachowski, “There are three primary reasons Americans currently don’t adopt broadband: first, relevance, or the value consumers perceive from broadband; second, the lack of basic digital literacy, including a lack of trust, or concern about privacy and safety issues online; and third, the cost of a device and connectivity”.

America has even gone an extra mile to propose a future project called wireless future project that is now America’s Open technology initiative. The project develops and promotes rule proposals to advance universal, inexpensive and everywhere broadband and improve the public’s access to critical wireless technologies of communication. The project seeks to encourage fair and effective usage of the airwaves to realize real potential of the wireless era for entire American population.

America seeks to promote the municipal and community broadband networks by increasing public accessibility to crucial spectrum, promoting open networking technology and infrastructure and develop excellent-practices to help construct winning and maintainable networks.

Rural areas and internet technology

Residents of small towns and their residents would be able to enjoy many more prospects in the areas of education and economic enrichment. Via a wireless signal, high-speed Internet may be able to properly match the disparities between the prospects for population in rural areas as contrasted to the prospects for those in town setup. For instance, goods that could be gone for at a far place can now be conveyed to front door in a much shorter time. Inversely, business people in rural setup do have a reason to smile as they can promote and sell out goods and services online, thus creating a new souk for their products. Cable and telephone companies have lacked in development in rural setting (Hart 84). This is due to the difficulty in laying the required infrastructure to sparse population. This doesn’t mean that they are not in need of connection.

Today, there are a number of wireless standards available. Cell phone technology, also known as 3G wireless technologies are available in frequencies given out by the FCC. This allows 3G enabled devices to get pick signal thus connection. Examples include cell phone devices and laptops. This kind is not the best in terms of technological standards but one of the wireless technologies.

There are wireless signals through unlicensed frequency. Example is the Wi-Fi that uses standard 802.11b. This standard is not secure and speed is not guaranteed thus development of 802.11g and 802.11a to combat the concerns related to wireless technologies (Powell and Shim 92).

Wireless technologies and the growth of popularity of portable devices such as smartphones and tablets have created a variety of opportunities in the modern world. Wireless communications are changing the world because wireless devices are convenient, easy to use and can provide interconnectivity in virtually any place. Among the segments which are assumed to change dramatically due to the use of wireless technology one can name environmental protection, entertainment, business communications, sales, news reporting and healthcare.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss current and emerging wireless medical technologies, to describe wireless components in healthcare that are required for creating added business value, assess the changes to staffing and training in healthcare associated with the increasing use of wireless technologies, analyze potential challenges pertaining to wireless networks in healthcare institutions and methods of addressing these challenges.

Current and emerging wireless medical technologies

The use of wireless technologies in healthcare has numerous advantages: medical information can be delivered and shared in any setting, medical information and guidelines can be quickly distributed; wireless devices create space for such interconnectivity that could never be provided by wired devices. Wireless healthcare devices can be used for more advanced diagnostics, can deliver information between the patient and the healthcare institution in a continuous way, etc. One wireless device can implement several functions (e.g. providing medical information, gathering healthcare records, delivering physician’s recommendations, collecting statistics, etc.).

The integration of wireless technologies in healthcare is a very promising trend which might lead to a healthcare revolution. A notable invention are the Medical Body Area Network (MBAN) devices – special wearable sensors that collect various information about the patient, starting with respiratory functions and pulse and ending with ECG data (Information Week, 2012). Such novel approach to monitoring health will help to collect accurate medical information, diagnose patients in a better way, provide timely help in critical situations, etc.

Wireless technologies might be used to develop in-house wireless devices that have the potential to enhance performance inside healthcare organizations; for example, wireless connections can help to synchronize actions and information for anesthesiologists, surgeons, etc. Along with sharing information and tracking the patient’s state, wireless devices can be used to track provider care activities and data, to report the status of equipment and other devices, to integrate data from other devices into a global network, to perform drug tracking and other analytical functions (Cooper & Fuchs, 2013). Furthermore, wide use of smartphones and other WiFi enabled devices allows to create healthcare apps for exchanging healthcare information into one system. Such interactivity might transform the whole approach to healthcare and turn it into a continuous process guided by healthcare institutions.

Wireless components needed for added business value

The technologies used for wireless healthcare devices include WiFi (IEEE 802.11x), Bluetooth, RFID et al. As a minimum, the components needed for added business value of healthcare wireless devices include wireless hardware, means of connecting this hardware to WLAN or WAN and software for handling the connections, measurements and data exchange. In the case of data collection and processing  on the provider’s side, there is a need for access points for wireless connections and a server authenticating and/or processing wireless requests.

The risks of wireless network failure can be addressed with the help of quality of service (QoS) technology use, with the help of data integrity maintenance, using various means of reducing electromagnetic emission and its effects and enhancing wireless network security with the help of secure authentication, encryption and accountability policies (Witters, 2011). Overall, the field of wireless healthcare technology is rapidly evolving and it is likely that wireless devices will change the whole approach to care delivery in the future.
