However, what exactly is stress and why is it important to manage stress? Stress is a natural reaction the body has to the various experiences and events that arise in one's life. Changes, whether positive or negative, can be stressful. For example, starting a new job is a positive life event, but is also extremely stressful because of the new experiences and demands that may arise. Also, getting a speeding ticket is a negative life event and can lead to feelings of stress. Stress in the short term can increase your motivation and give you the boost you need to finish a task or meet a deadline. However, when stress becomes long term or excessive, it can have a detrimental effect on the physical body as well as emotional well-being. For example, it can suppress the immune system, upset the digestive and reproductive systems, increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, and speed up the aging process. Also, the longer the body is in the stress response, blood pressure, heart rate, and muscle tension are increased, which can lead to a numerous amount of health risks such as hypertension, heart disease, and anxiety. In mild doses, the human body can be put under a moderate amount of stress and still be healthy and active. But as the amount of stress increases, various systems throughout the body can become overworked and start to develop problems. As a result, there is an increasing amount of stress-related diseases and issues being reported, such as adrenal fatigue and heart problems. To prevent these issues from arising, it is important to identify the signs of stress and implement strategies to manage the stress in one's life. Additionally, understanding the foundational concepts of stress and recognizing the importance of managing stress are critical first steps. Stress management is paramount for maintaining good health and well-being. This article aims to provide an introduction to the wide field of stress.
1.1. Definition of Stress
The cognitive definition of stress focuses on the transaction between people and their external environment. In this definition, stress is perceived as the result of an incompatibility between the demands of the environment and the ability of an individual to meet those demands. According to R.S. It then seems that even developing an understanding of the concept of stress is a complex area of study due to the numerous definitions presented and that each individual can suffer different kinds of symptoms.

In recent years, stress has become a major problem in people's lives. In today's world, almost everyone is overburdened by the pressures and demands of their lives due to various reasons. This continuous feeling of pressure can easily affect the human body. Experts in the field of health psychology have found that the leading causes of stress are employment and finances. The three main causes of stress refer to major life events, chronic problems, and daily hassles. Such chronic stressors can be quite difficult to deal with and often do not have a quick solution. This can also help individuals feel more in control with their own healthcare. Overall, the adoption of multiple healthy lifestyle habits can lead to an increased sense of control over one’s life. This can be a very positive asset when dealing with the issue of stress. However, keep in mind that taking the first steps toward a lifestyle change can be a mental challenge in itself.
